Projects
Political work
I spent a summer interning on Capitol Hill. Some highlights were my sit down interview with Congresswoman Lois Frankel and my piece on MDMA-assisted treatment where I spoke to several Congresspeople and several veterans. I also made a Tiktok page (reaching 19k) called Keeping Up With Congress, where I made video packages breaking down what’s happening on Capitol Hill for Gen Z audiences.
Congresswoman Frankel sit-down interview for Her Campus feature
I heard Congresswoman Frankel, at a news conference held at the House Triangle, talk about her work in college for reproductive rights. I had the idea to do a feature on her, and I reached out to her communications director and pitched the idea. Then I worked to build trust throughout the summer and was able to arrange the sit-down interview with her after a vote towards the very end of summer. While arranging this article, I collaborated with the national editor of Her Campus magazine with the interview questions I had planned and the angle of the story.

MDMA piece, Reps. Crenshaw, Luttrell, Bergman, veterans
One day as I arrived at the Capitol, I saw a group of veterans attending a press conference about MDMA-assisted treatment for PTSD. The FDA was about to make a decision on if they would approve this treatment method to treat PTSD in veterans. For this article, I interviewed several veterans who traveled to D.C., and then I interviewed Rep. Crenshaw (R-TX), Rep. Luttrell (R-TX), and Rep. Bergman (R-MI). There is a published written article for the San Marcos Daily Record and then a video package.

Here is a video-form package I made on this.

Keeping Up With Congress
Gen Z's main source of news is social media. Gen Z deserves to be a part of the discussion around politics. My solution was to break down everything happening on Capitol Hill into social media-style video news packages for my generation. I did this project alongside a fellow friend and intern, Walker Whalen. Within the short six weeks of starting this page, we reached 19K through our videos on TikTok. I have been absolutely inspired by the positive feedback I've gotten from strangers and friends on how they feel more informed by seeing the videos.

I also feel strongly about restoring the public's trust in the media by showing the process of being a journalist. Through my videos, I show the interviews, I dive into the research and the sources of the information, and that way everyone can feel informed and empowered to keep being an active participant in politics.

On-Camera Video Social Content – Texas State University
My favorite type of video at my job is a series called "Try @ TXST" where I get to try out different experiences and organizations on campus, in hopes of encouraging students to get involved.

1. In this first video, I try out the bee keeping club.
While I do get stung on my neck, it was important I remained calm and professional. We ended up with an interactive and exciting video.

Podcast Interviews – Texas State University's "Office Hours"
As part of my job at Texas State University's Marketing and Communications Department, I craft questions for different professors who have interesting research projects or stories, and then interview them for the university's podcast.
